Houston TX - Cal Dive International, Inc. (Nasdaq: CDIS) has hired Martin R. Ferron as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Ferron has over 16 years of experience in the oilfield service industry, the last seven in senior management positions with McDermott Marine Construction and Oceaneering International. In these most recent international assignments, he had general management responsibilities in project based organizations involving several hundred personnel, responsibilities which included strategic business development. He began his career with Comex Houlder Diving in 1981. Mr. Ferron is a Chartered Civil Engineer with a degree from City University in London, England, a Masters Degree in Marine Technology from Strathclyde University in Glasgow and an MBA degree from Aberdeen University.
Owen Kratz, Chief Executive Officer, stated "Martin brings a professional management orientation that is essential as we assist customers in developing economic solutions to the technical challenges of the Deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Martin's background of marine construction operations in both the North Sea and offshore West Africa will be invaluable in developing our life of field services."
Jim Nelson, founder and member of the CDI Board of Directors observed, "the hiring of Martin Ferron continues the management transition announced last April with Owen Kratz becoming Chief Executive Officer. We expect that our partner and current Chairman, Jerry Reuhl, will retire during 1998 and that Mr. Kratz will assume that title."
